Dr Melanie Drake brings over 25 years of experience in education, with leadership roles across schools and tertiary institutions. She holds a PhD from the University of Auckland and has managed complex challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and social justice issues. Before joining AUT, she was a senior lecturer at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa. Her research focuses on the intersection of educational theory and leadership practice, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, social justice and conflict resolution. A former school principal and caregiver, she understands the balance between personal and professional life. At AUT, she is part of a passionate academic team, supporting future education leaders through compassionate, inclusive and strategic leadership.
