Can I switch between full-time and part-time study if my circumstances change?
At this stage, all AUT Online programmes are only available part-time. Full-time study is not currently offered.
Are there specialisation options or electives in fields like leadership or policy making?
While we don’t offer formal specialisations, leadership and policy making are embedded in our courses. AUT Online’s applied learning approach lets you apply what you learn directly to your professional context; helping you build practical skills and insights in these areas, alongside a strong foundation in general management.
What is the balance between theory and practice?
At AUT, we make sure theory and practice go hand in hand. Our lecturers bring real-world experience into the classroom, so you won’t just learn the ‘why’ – you’ll understand the ‘how’, and feel confident applying it in your own work and context.
Are there any exams or assignments?
Each course includes two assignments – with a focus on being reflective and practical. You might write about how your experiences relate to leadership theories, develop an organisational plan or policy, or reflect on something happening in your workplace right now. There are no exams or tests; just meaningful work that connects directly to your professional life.
Will I study on my own or collaborate with classmates?
About 30% of your assessments will involve group work, giving you a chance to collaborate with your peers. You’ll connect and work together online via Microsoft Teams and Canvas (our easy-to-use online learning platform), helping you build valuable teamwork skills alongside your independent study.
What is the total cost for the AUT Online Master of Educational Leadership?
The total cost of the programme is $14,787.40. This includes tuition fees and the student services levy.
What academic and student support is available for online learners like me?
As an AUT Online student, you’ll have access to your lecturers via email and online chat. You’ll also be supported by a dedicated team of student success advisors, available 7 days a week.
In addition, you'll enjoy the same support services as on-campus students, including access to academic workshops delivered online through the AUT library.
What networking opportunities are available in the Master of Educational Leadership?
Plenty! As an AUT Online student, you’re a full part of the university community with access to alumni networks, workshops and events just like you would if you were studying on campus.
The Master of Educational Leadership also offers rich, built-in networking opportunities through close engagement with your cohort and experienced academics. You’ll grow within a supportive, connected learning community where mentoring, collaboration and professional relationships extend well beyond the classroom.
Can I take a break from my study if needed?
You sure can. We understand that life can get busy or unexpected things may come up. That’s why the programme enables you to take a break for a trimester if needed.
Because you’re studying part-time, you’ll have up to four years to complete the Master of Educational Leadership, giving you the flexibility to study at your own pace.
Are there shorter study options if I don’t complete the full Master of Educational Leadership?
Yes, our programmes are designed to be flexible and stackable. This means you can complete a postgraduate certificate and seamlessly transfer into a full Master of Educational Leadership, without any additional time added to your overall student journey.
If you decide to exit early and have completed two of the six educational leadership courses, you can choose to graduate with a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership.
